Angus Bowskill is the winner of 'artbeat' 2025
Angus Bowskill is a digital media artist whose practice explores the tension between surface texture, abstraction and the manipulation of found imagery. Drawing on visual material, Angus recontextualises and distorts images through digital collage, layering and redaction. His work often blurs the line between digital aesthetics and painterly qualities, inviting viewers to reconsider the role of texture and form in screen-based media.
A recurring theme in Angus’s work is the structural similarity between natural and technological systems. In projects such as the 168 Exhibition at Curtin University, he investigated how networks like mycelium echo the architecture of the internet. By layering mushroom images with fibre-optic cables and organic forms, Angus created compositions that speak to the interconnectedness of data, biology, and visual culture.
Currently completing his Bachelor of Creative Arts at Curtin University, Angus is focused on refining both his conceptual direction and technical skillset. As the winner of the 2025 Yallingup Galleries ‘artbeat’ Mentorship, he seeks to gain further insight into the professional art world, particularly how experimental media can thrive within traditional gallery contexts.
