"Christophe’s peeling was an interesting surface to work on. I began with a vision, but the textures and tonal shifts within the surface guided the final image, shaping the work and the power of the horse as it developed.
The stone-like quality and the history of the surface it was peeled from made me think of unearthing ancient Greek sculpture. I wanted to give the impression that a weathered statue was slowly emerging from the peeling. In this work, one of the horses of Helios comes forward from the surface, reflecting the strength of the surface it once covered." - Emma Skinner
