Rohin Kickett is a Nyoongar artist from the Balardong region, born in Northam, Western Australia, in 1986. Coming from a family of artists, Rohin was encouraged by his uncles to begin creating art. His practice began in his teenage years, and he became a full-time artist in 2016.

Working across painting and photography, Rohin explores different methods of mark-making. His work draws on his connection to Country and his firsthand understanding of the effects of colonisation on his family. Through his practice, he seeks to deepen understanding of the issues Aboriginal people face and build stronger relationships between communities.

In 2018, Rohin completed the Indigenous Tertiary Enabling Course through Curtin University’s Centre for Aboriginal Studies before undertaking studies in fine art.

A passionate advocate for First Nations artists, Rohin has worked to address barriers within the arts industry. After receiving a grant to attend the Future Forward Conference in Canberra, he raised concerns about the challenges facing Nyoongar artists and was subsequently elected to the board of the National Association for the Visual Arts.

His advocacy has included consulting with the City of Armadale and the City of Melville on culturally appropriate approaches to Aboriginal art projects, alongside involvement with the Fremantle Biennale as an artist and consultant.
