Robert Jones began his journey in the industrial region of the West Midlands, UK, where he honed his skills as a pattern maker in one of the country’s largest foundries. In 1988, he relocated to New Zealand and immersed himself in the local woodturning community. Although woodworking started as a hobby, his creations quickly found their way into galleries and exhibitions across the country.
By 1995, Robert had made his way to Mundijong, where he fully committed to his craft. There, he crafts captivating wooden pieces, which he supplies to galleries throughout Australia.
Working with richly textured timbers like sheoak, jarrah, and jacaranda, Robert starts with a simple form and lets it evolve through constant refinement. The changing angles and forms inspire new choices in colour and decorative detail. His current inspiration comes from the shimmering interplay of sunlight on water, and he channels that into sculptural creations intended more for visual beauty than practical use.
All of his works are proudly made in Western Australia.
