Collection: Gina D'Alessandro

Gina is an emerging Western Australian artist living and working full-time from her home studio in Hamilton Hill. Drawing and painting have been constants throughout her life, closely intertwined with her love of nature. Her practice centres on botanical subjects, with a particular passion for Australian native flora.

Her inspiration often begins with her own photographs, taken during daily walks and travels, which capture plants in different stages of life. Gina is fascinated by the entire lifecycle of flora — from fresh growth to weathered branches — and her works explore these subtle transformations in colour, shape, and texture. Through close-up compositions, she highlights the intricate beauty often overlooked in the natural world, inviting viewers to see plants not just as background, but as dynamic and expressive forms in their own right.

While oil painting is her preferred medium, Gina also enjoys working with gouache and watercolour. Each material allows her to translate the richness of botanical life into vibrant, layered works that celebrate the resilience and delicacy of the natural world.

Her paintings reflect both careful observation and a deep reverence for the environment. By isolating details and framing them with a painter’s eye, Gina creates contemporary botanical portraits that encourage connection, contemplation, and appreciation of Australia’s unique plant life.
