Born in England in 1960 Crispin Akerman came to Australia with his family in 1966 to settle in W.A. He spent many years in the music industry as a member of Eurogliders but decided in 1989 to pursue his lifelong interest in the visual arts. He studied at the Julian Ashton art school in Sydney briefly before undertaking a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Canberra School of Art graduating in 1992. Since graduating Akerman has exhibited extensively throughout Australia.
Crispin Akerman likes to work from life using a timeless vocabulary of domestic items such as ceramics, fruit, drapery and enamelware to explore harmony, balance, tension , light and atmosphere in his paintings.
