Yallingup Galleries is proud to present Contemporary Woman, a group exhibition celebrating four Western Australian artists: Tatiana Amaral, Victoria Paxton, Tammy Andrews and Vania Lawson. Each artist offers a distinctive exploration of strength, emotion and connection to place through their individual practice.
Bringing together painting, collage and ceramics, Contemporary Woman creates an intimate dialogue between material, landscape and feminine perspective. The exhibition highlights the diverse voices shaping contemporary art in Western Australia, where process and intuition intersect with deeply personal narratives.
Vania Lawson
Perth-based artist Vania Lawson presents luminous landscape paintings that capture the shifting light of ocean and sky. Through a cyclical process of layering and revealing paint, Lawson evokes memory, reflection and a sense of timelessness.
“I’m drawn to the subtle details of place, the colour before rain, the dryness of summer, the quiet of winter. These moments shape how we understand time and how we connect to a changing landscape.”
Tatiana Amaral
Brazilian-born artist Tatiana Amaral, based in Perth since 2006, creates intricate collaged compositions using cotton paper, acrylic and pigment. Her tactile, meditative process, burning, shaping and placing each element by hand, builds richly layered works that reflect both her heritage and her connection to the Western Australian landscape.
“The work begins with a memory of place, but it unfolds slowly through repetition, each piece of paper placed by hand, guided by patience and a quiet exchange between material and feeling.”
Tammy Andrews
Tammy Andrews, based in Esperance and a Curtin University graduate, brings a sensuous energy to oil painting. Known for her thick, expressive brushwork and impressionistic compositions, Andrews embraces the sculptural qualities of paint to create works that feel both grounded and emotive.
“The interior enveloping a still life lends a sense of grounding. It becomes a landscape of thought, of movement and gently held sentiment, where the object of the moment is allowed to quietly shine.”
Victoria Paxton
Perth ceramic artist Victoria Paxton hand-builds sculptural stoneware forms that balance movement, tactility and quiet presence. Working slowly and intuitively, Paxton allows the clay to guide each piece, resulting in forms that feel both organic and architectural.
“I work without a fixed plan, allowing the clay to lead. The forms emerge slowly, soft yet strong, holding a quiet presence that sits somewhere between sculpture and stillness.”
A Celebration of Contemporary Female Practice
Together, the artists of Contemporary Woman present a compelling celebration of contemporary female practice. Through diverse materials and approaches, the exhibition explores landscape, identity and emotional resonance with sensitivity and depth.
