Collected: Contemporary Western Australia

Celebrating the Artists Shaping Our State
Western Australia has long inspired artists with its extraordinary coastline, vast landscapes and remarkable quality of light. Yet beyond its natural beauty lies something equally compelling, a community of artists whose individual voices continue to shape the identity of contemporary Australian art.
At Yallingup Galleries, we are proud to present Collected: Contemporary Western Australia, a curated online exhibition bringing together eighteen original artworks by nine leading Western Australian artists. Rather than presenting a broad survey, the exhibition has been carefully assembled to celebrate the diversity of contemporary practice across the state while highlighting works of exceptional quality and collectability.
A Contemporary Perspective on Place
Landscape remains central to Western Australian art, but today's artists approach it in remarkably different ways.
Larry Mitchell's luminous coastal paintings capture the extraordinary clarity of the Indian Ocean with breathtaking realism. Chris Martin explores fleeting moments of light and atmosphere along the South West coastline, while Josh Windram distils the landscape into quiet, contemplative compositions that blur the line between observation and abstraction. Kim Maple offers a fresh, expressive interpretation of place through energetic colour and painterly gesture.
Together, these artists demonstrate that Western Australia's landscape is not simply a subject to be painted, it is an ongoing source of inspiration that continues to evolve through contemporary practice.
Beyond the Landscape
The exhibition also celebrates artists whose work explores narrative, memory and everyday experience.
Judy Prosser's distinctive paintings weave together story, symbolism and the Australian landscape, creating works that celebrate connection to Country and the enduring power of storytelling. Leanne Pearson captures intimate moments of childhood and human connection with warmth and sensitivity, while Crispin Akerman's refined still life's reveal beauty in familiar objects through careful observation and masterful technique.
Christophe Domergue & Tanya Cole brings another dimension to the exhibition, combining portraiture, abstraction and richly textured surfaces to create works that reward close viewing and invite personal interpretation.
A Curated Collection
While each artist possesses a unique visual language, together they reveal the remarkable breadth of contemporary Western Australian art. From expansive coastal panoramas and expressive abstraction to figurative narrative and still life, every work has been selected for the dialogue it creates with those around it.
The result is an exhibition that is both cohesive and diverse—reflecting the confidence, creativity and individuality that characterise Western Australian artists today.
