Description:
This sculpture showcases Alan's love for nature-inspired sculptures and contemporary sculptures. He recently started developing this concept and this is one of his first in the series of this kind. Made entirely from recycled repurposed and historic components - one could say vintage trash.  Alan has purposely selected components, carefully planned and constructed the piece giving it balance, form and meaning.  The steel parts are CNC machine offcuts and these come from one of the local engineering shops, and the currency is beer.  This represents the man made reef providing protection for marine life. The bodies of the fish are carved from olive branches pruned at Cape Mentelle Wines, Margaret River. The fins and tails are cut from an old oil drum. Every component has a story. The artists use of recycling components demonstrates his commitment to the environment and sustainability

Care for sculpture
The steel and timber compliments are treated with a simple coating of linseed oil and turpentine in 50/50 mixture - lightly brushed on. This coating can be applied as regularly as every 6 months – this is recommended if the piece is outdoors and exposed to the elements. If indoors, the process can be repeated every few years. Any commercially available furniture oil, such as tung oil, can be used for this application. Penetrol is used for outdoor settings and office higher levels of protection and should be applied every 6 months to 1 year.
