John is a local Western Australian artist who has always had an intense interest in wildlife, particularly fish and birds.  This passion led him to obtain a Science degree with a major in zoology.

Johns’ artistic endeavours began in the 1990’s when he started collecting and carving driftwood from the beaches in the Cape Naturaliste region. He became interested in using copper in the late 1990’s when a good friend showed him how to manipulate copper sheet into life like sculpture.

Since then he has worked mainly with this medium which involves hand working annealed copper using hand-made tools to affect the desired shape. John does not use moulds, rather each piece is individually hand worked so that no two pieces are ever identical and he relies on the copper’s natural patina to achieve the realistic finishes.
